Florence was super gorgeous. Like one of the most gorgeous. My hostel was actually quite far from the city- a 45 min bus ride away. It was in a small town called Tavarnelle and it was the cutest town ever. The story of how I found my hostel highlights my lack of navigating prowess. The first step was to take a bus from the station to Tavarnelle. I found the bus station by following a little boy who I assume asked for directions. The man he asked looked official, said "sita" (the name of the bus station or something) and pointed, so it seemed legit. When I was getting my ticket, the guy in line in front of me was also going to Tavarnelle, so I followed him, which was helpful navigating the bus change halfway through. I got off the bus a little to early when I followed some other people and had only a vague idea where I was. I wandered around for a while but eventually addled some people where the hostel was. Being older, they didn't speak English and attempted to employ some younger people to do the job of giving me directions. Then one of them just decided to take me there himself and walked me all the way to my hostel. So that was nice of him.
In other bus related news, the next day I got off the bus even earlier and had to walk 3 or 4 miles to the hostel. Luckily I had Google maps, phone music, and an external battery for my phone. Also it was super fucking gorgeous.
More fun things include one night when one of the people running the hostel decided to assist the socializing in the common room by proving us with a couple bottles of wine. It totally worked. That night another guy was compelled by internal laws of hospitality to furnish everyone there with beers, so that was nice too.
Have some pictures:
