August 10 - 17 : Budapest + sziget fest!

I forgot how great Budapest is. It's great. And huge. And cheap. Still my favorite city. I stayed in a hostel my first couple days, then I camped on the island [sziget] during the festival. I wasn't planning on going to the festival alone, so I was a little concerned that it was gonna suck, but instead it was great. Like a massive state fair with more to do and music instead of agriculture.

One day was super stacked on the main stage. First my friend's boyfriend's band, then Bastille, Lily Allen, and Macklemore. By the time Lily Allen came around, I had managed to get to the front row and people had to be rescued by security guards. Also, I'm pretty sure there was some girl literally crying for love of Bastille.

Macklemore was amazing. I didn't want to be totally blown away by Macklemore but I totally was.

Escape the room! I played by myself, but I still made it (with some help).

Happy birthday to me. My birthday present to myself was a trip to Fragola. Also to hide in my tent on the last day of the festival without feeling bad.

July 31- August 9: Linz to Vienna to Bratislava to Győr to Budapest

Um yeah, places. I biked along the Danube bike path which was pretty chill, mostly well-marked, and mostly slightly downhill. Sometimes kind of flooded though.

Linz

Saw another dude camping so I decided to stay there too.

Sometimes you can ignore the "high water" warnings. Sometimes the path looks like this.

Always ask for the best flavor. They know.

Film festival thing. I got to see the short film before the real one but then it started raining too much.

THE SANDWICH PLACE I FINALLY WENT. I was determined to go after it was recommended to me twice and I failed to make it the last time I was in Vienna. They were taking pictures when I got there, so I had to come back like 10 minutes later. Because of this, the photographer people paid for my meal and it was great.

Finally a beer in my size.

July 27-30: Salzburg to Linz!

Spent a couple nights in Salzburg. It turns out that I could have spent another day or so there, but I didn't know that at the time. I mostly just walked around, per usual. It turns out that is like in a bowl surrounded by cliffs, so you can actually do some nice hiking right in the city. It's also right on the edge of the Alps, and in the process of biking there I learned that I definitely do not want to bike through the mountains. I was choosing between taking a train to Croatia and biking along the coast for a while and just biking straight to Budapest. I chose Croatia but it turns out that taking your bike on the train is a lot harder than I thought. It's a really good thing that the train station had wifi because I had to plan my Salzburg to Linz leg there, maybe an hour before I left.

BigBelly!

This was a really cute little stage that anyone could go up and perform on

Salzburg is truly a city where you need never wonder where the nearest Spar is
