I forgot all about putting up photos from the last leg of my trip! I present to you: Norway
Here's the rundown on Norway: It's amazingly beautiful and super nice but also crazy expensive. There's tons of woods and camping and things even right by the city. You could take one of Oslo's excellent subway lines to get to a big ass forest that you could go wander around in for weeks or months if you wanted.
I spent most of my time in Oslo. I stayed with my friend, which was nice because Norway is super expensive and also I like seeing my friend. I spent most of my time by myself wandering around Olso though since my friend had to work. He also wasn't super helpful in terms of knowing local stuff, because he's new to Norway too. I think that by the time I left, I may have seen more of Oslo's sights than he has.
I spent a little bit of time in Ringebu, the little town my Norwegian family comes from. It was gorgeous and I didn't have to pay for housing because I camped, but there also wasn't much to do. I spent a lot of the time hiding in my tent and reading.
The Opera house! It's nice inside, but the best part is getting to walk right up the roof! I was out in Oslo quite early every morning because my host had work. Lots of places weren't open yet, but the roof always was. A great view and place to chill plus free wifi and bathrooms inside. A+ homebase for touristing.
Look at that fjord!
Inside the Opera house!
I think the Opera house was hosting some convention or event of some kind for a car people.
Nice lookin' ceiling on this church guy. And by now, I sure have seen a lot of church ceiling.
I went to a sculpture garden! Vigeland Park. It had some pretty interesting things in there.
Goddamn babies.
The customs museum! I really love cute little museums and this one was no different. I think it was free too! There were definitely free postcards so you can bet I took advantage of that. Most of the museum was about ways people have smuggled things in the mail. Apparently Norway had prohibition too!
Booze log. Blog.
many things to counterfeit.
This thing is my favorite. Gun-shaped bottle to disguise your illegal booze as a gun! The perfect plan.
I went to bumfuck-norwhere Norway for a few days while my host was at a company retreat! More specifically, I went to Ringebu, the true ancestral home, where the Norwegian side of my family is from. There's a good chance that I didn't take advantage of that as much as I could have in terms of finding shit from my family there. In fact, I found no things about my family there; probably I didn't do enough research. Ringebu is pretty much in the center of the Gudbrandsdalen Valley. According to a brochure I found, there is lots of neat woods and hunting things to do if you have a car to drive out to the national park. Apparently hosting the world's fly fishing tournament one year really put Ringebu on the map. Like the rest of Norway, Ringebu is amazingly gorgeous. Photo evidence below.
This is the view from where I set up camp. Apparently, you can set up a tent anywhere as long as it's only for a few days. Even on private property, though it's considered polite to ask first =P
Lefse! In stores! When it isn't during the holidays! Whaaaaaaat! This stuff even came pre-buttered and rolled up. So good.
This is the stave church! It's basically the only thing worth seeing in Ringebu. It's really cool and old as shit. There are only a handful left. They said that there aren't any nails or anything holding it together, just wood. I think that it was supposed to be closed for the season but there were people there and they let me go inside. I couldn't take pictures though.
I looked for the family name here, but I don't think names worked that way. It's all very confusing. More about the place you're from than the people you're born to I think, which was not very helpful to my cause.
Hey lady.
Graffiti in Bumfuck, Norway.
Lot of fancy cars here for some reason
"Hello I'm Norway and I'm fucking gorgeous"
Beach volleyball!
Rainbow! I swear. There were so many rainbows in Norway. Always with the sunny then rainy then both. Every single day I swear.
Happened upon some kind of cultural event.
Statue of FDR. I kind of love seeing statues of American presidents in other countries.
This art looks like it was made by a child. Also it was made by a child. I think with some help from an adult.
Went to a cute little museum. I think this one was about the Norwegian resistance during Nazi occupation. Here we see a communication from someone known only as "Cheese".
"Norwegian officers in the Schildberg prison camp listened to BBC's European Service via the dentures of the senior prisoner-of-war." WHAT.
Put my feet in the fjord.
Someone was swimming in there. It may have been summer, but it was still cold as fuck in the fjord.
Oh hey, another one!
Had to sit on this to confirm that it was indeed a chair.
Tons of people marching in protest of ISIS.
People performing on top of the Opera house!
